Click on the red Start button to begin.

You will be taken to “Your Evaluations” page. This will be blank when you start, but icons for previous evaluations will appear here once you have done some.

Classroom Layout

Before you begin a new evaluation though you should setup the layout of your classroom(s) or workspace(s). You do this by choosing the Layouts button at the bottom of the screen. [or you can do this as part of setting up a New Evaluation]

Select either “Create New Classroom Template” or “New Layout” which is in the top-right corner.

Now you can choose Teacher, Student or Object from the side menu and then tap or click wherever you want one of these to go. Once they are place, you can drag them around to place them more exactly.

When you are done select Done (top right) and give the layout a name and choose Submit.

This takes you back to your Classroom Layouts page and the icon for your layout appears there.

Create an Evaluation

Now go back to the Evaluations page (bottom left) and select “Create New Evaluation” or “New Evaluation” or select the red “+”  icon

To set up an evaluation you need to give it a name, write out your goal and choose an evaluation type. Currently there are six evaluation types.
If you choose Teacher Movement, Student Movement, Teacher-Student interaction or Student-Student interaction you will also need to choose a classroom layout. Question Type and Classroom Management do not require you to select a layout as they keep track of these things over time, not location.

Type in your goal for this session.

When all the information is complete, select Create. If you have chosen an evaluation that requires a layout you will see the classroom with a sidebar that includes a timer, a Start option and an Add Note option.

  • To begin recording data, select “Start” to start the timer.
  • You can add a note at any time – a popup screen will appear for you to type your note. Your note will be linked to the time it was submitted.
  • You may Pause the timer and resume it.

For Teacher-Student or Student-Student Interaction:

After you start the timer you must indicate the direction of the interaction by

  • First clicking on the teacher or student who initiated it and
  • Then click on the recipient for the interaction.
  • Repeat this for each interaction
  • For teacher interactions you can also use the “Broadcast’ selection (under the class layout) when the teacher asks a question or makes a comment to the entire group.

  • Select Done (top left) when you are finished. This takes you back to ‘Your Evaluations.’ To see a report select the evaluation you wish to view.

The results of interactions will look similar to the image below:

Features:

The number of interaction for each student is indicated on the seating plan
The line colours indicate the direction of the interaction
The total number of interactions is indicated in the lower left corner.
The time of each interaction is indicated to provide a sense of timing.
Notes can be viewed in the list or can be selected to expand them.

For Teacher or Student Movement

After you start the timer you must click on the teacher and then click or tap whenever the teacher moves to a new location.
You can add notes whenever you need to.
Click Done when you are finished and select the evaluation to see a report.

Features:

The total number of recorded movements is indicated in the lower left corner.
Movements are numbered in order.
The time of each movement is indicated to provide a sense of timing.
Selecting any of the events on the left highlights the related circle on the layout.
Notes can be viewed in the list or can be selected to expand them
Turn on the heat map  (bottom) to get a visual of how much time was spent in any one area.

For Question Type:

You will not have to choose a classroom layout but you can indicate the class in the title.
The working screen will be similar to this:

Features

Each question type has a timeline to indicate the amount of time between questions. This highlights ‘wait time’ visually.
The time and type of each question is also recorded in the column on the left.
If you choose an item in this column it will highlight it on the visual timeline.
The total number of questions is in the bottom left corner.
Notes can be viewed in the results column or by selecting it.

For Classroom Management:

Notes can be viewed in the results column or by selecting them.

Exporting your results:

The next update will allow you to export PDF versions of your evaluations and share them. This feature is not ready yet.
To export your evaluations for the time being, take a screenshot of your results and share the image via email to yourself and others.
